builder services

The 2012 International Energy Conservation Code will require new dwellings built in Maryland, that requires a building permit, to have more insulation, a tighter envelope, tighter ducts, better windows, and more efficient lighting.

The State of Maryland was the first in the nation to adopt the 2012 version of the International Energy Conservation Code leading the country to a new era of efficient homes.

We are here to help builders & mechanical contractors navigate through these NEW codes as the adapt their trades to more energy efficient practices.

We provide consulting, training as well as the required third party certified Blower Door & Duct Tightness Testing.

Blower Door Testing requirements under the NEW 2012 IECC Code have become mandatory and more stringent. Builders now have to comply with both the checklist requirements and the requirement to conduct a blower-door test. The air-sealing checklist in the 2012 IECC is called Table R402.4.1.1, ―Air Barrier and Insulation Installation. Once you have completed the air-sealing checklist, you still need to conduct a blower-door test. According to section R402.4.1.2 of the 2012 IECC, the building or dwelling unit shall be tested and verified as having an air leakage rate of not exceeding 3 air changes per hour at a pressure of 0.2 inches w.g. (50 Pascals).

Duct Tightness Testing requirements under the NEW 2012 IECC Code has increased the stringency of the duct leakage thresholds. The code requires builders to test a duct system unless the duct system is located entirely inside of the home‘s thermal envelope and meet the threshold requirement of 4 cfm per 100 square feet of conditioned floor area. The State of MD requires testing be conducted by a certified third party company. A written report of the results of the test shall be signed by the party conducting the test and provided to the County Inspection Agency.

energy incentives

In 2008, the Maryland General Assembly passed the EmPOWER Maryland Energy Efficiency Act. The legislation set a target reduction of 15 percent in per capita electricity consumption and demand by 2015 from a 2007 baseline.  Since its inception through September 2012, EmPOWER Maryland has helped fund energy reduction measures that will reduce

energy usage by more than 2 million MWh per year and save $250 million annually. These savings will continue for years, with currently existing measures saving $3.7 billion over their useful life.

Rebates up to $3,150 through Maryland Utilities’ Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Program are available, based on approved measures.

What our Customers are saying:

“This was probably the most courteous, professional group of people I have worked with in my adult life- my husband and I were extremely impressed with the quality of work. It used to be 55 degrees in the upstairs of our house during winter, no matter how much we heated the house and now the whole house is extremely comfortable- and our energy bills have gone down!”

“Holistic Home Energy’s passion for helping customers understand how their homes use energy and what they can do to reduce their energy consumptions is evident. In addition to understanding the science behind effective energy audits, they also understand the rebate programs available and help all their customers to benefit. In short, Holistic Home’s work displays integrity, expertise, and a passion for using the latest scientific research to assist their clients. I am so pleased that a firm like this provides such valuable services in Maryland!

“Before I hired Holistic Home Energy Services, we could not use the second floor of my house. Then Holistic Home Energy came out and did a comprehensive energy audit.  They were then able to pinpoint and fix the problem. My upstairs is now much, much better and our electricity bills are lower, too! We were so happy with Holistic Home Energy Services, that when our hot water heater went up a couple months later, we immediately called to replace it with a tankless system that they recommended during the audit. We love it!“

“We had Holistic Home Energy come out and do an energy audit on our home. We had several rooms that are too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer, and wanted to see where we could save money on our energy bill. After Holistic Home did their very thorough tests they were able to make suggestions to remedy those comfort problems in our home, and save money on our future energy bills. I would recommend Holistic Home Energy to all of my friends.”
